Largest and Oldest Museum in The World

At least one of you maybe have listen about this museum. It is one of the largest and the oldest museum that ever exist in the world. In this museum has so many histories around the world. It needs at least 11 years to explore all parts inside.

Yup, it's called Hermitage Museum or Эрмитаж (Russian, re: Ermitazh), for ancient time, mostly known as Winter Palace. Just for your information, Hermitage Museum is a museum of arts and culture in Saint Petersburg, Russia. In my city, where I study right now. This museum is one of the largest and the oldest museum in the world, founded by Catherine The Great in 1764 (anyone who doesn't know Catherine The Great could open this link.) and has been open to the public since 1852.

So, my friends and I went to visit Hermitage at Saturday, 15th October 2016. It's quite late to post about Hermitage but it's okay. Let's get into it.

A front view of Hermitage Museum
After we get in that building, we saw a beautiful and big garden with a big fountain there. And not so far from the garden, there are an entrance to the museum. (My bad, I didn't take a photo when I walked through that garden).

And then, we went to cashier to get our ticket, (we got it free because we are students, I'll give the information below), and we put our coats off and we came in to the main entrance to the museum (I don't know what it's called, I just call it like that). Here is a picture of the main entrance, as you see there are beautiful gold ornaments and statues.

On top of that ornaments, on the ceiling, we could see a big beautiful painting. I couldn't even think how can they painted such a great painting on the ceiling. It must be a hard job for painters.

Painting on a ceiling.
We saw so many great things. Artifacts, paintings, ornaments, statues and many more. But, right here I'm just gonna show you a little of it's greatness. And for the rest of them, you could check it by yourself at Hermitage Museum.

  • Still in Winter Palace, we walked to a big hall called The Armorial Hall. Right here we see this beautiful gold-ish and white hall. The entrances to the hall are flanked by sculptural groups of early Russian warriors. Attached to the shafts of their banners were little shields bearing the arms of the Russian provinces, which gave the hall its name.

  • And this hall called The War Gallery of 1812. The War Gallery of 1812 was created to commemorate Russia's victory over Napoleonic France. Its walls so many portraits of generals who fought in the war of 1812.

  • This hall called The St. George Hall. This hall used for official ceremonies and receptions for royal events. Also, served as the palace's principal throne room, which has a large throne, as an icon of this hall.

  • Next, we walked to the next building named Small Hermitage, and directly to a new room called The Pavilion Hall. In Pavilion Hall, we saw the famous Peacock Clock and a collection of mosaics.
    • The Peacock Clock.

    •  Beautiful and big mosaics.

  • Next building is The New Hermitage. In here, we walked through The Jupiter Hall. The hall acquired its present name from a huge statue of Jupiter (late 1st century) that comes from the suburban villa of Emperor Domitian.

  • And then, while we went to our exit, which in Winter Palace. We walked through Room of Ancient Egypt. The display is devoted to the culture and art of Ancient Egypt and it includes monumental sculpture and small-scale plastic art, reliefs, sarcophagi, articles of daily use and craft items. And in here, we found a mummy. It is really a mummy and (I hope) he's dead already.

It was a nice trip walk around inside one of the largest and oldest museum in the world. Only two hours we spent, because we already tired to walk around.

So, I think that's all about Hermitage Museum. Not much that I could've share, but if you want to know more about Hermitage Museum you can check it's website in here. There are many information you could read about Hermitage Museum and it's collection and also it's ticket price. Also for you, tourists who already stay in Russia or maybe already got a plan to visit Russia, make sure you all come to Hermitage Museum.

See you on my next posts and have a nice day. Thank you very much!
